This article explains what unknown findings are, where to find them and how to move them to the inventory.
When using automatic Discovery in MineOS, you may encounter findings that we cannot automatically match to our directory. These are labeled as Unknown Findings and require manual mapping to ensure your inventory remains accurate and complete.

What Are Unknown Findings?
Some Discovery integrations, like Azure AD and Okta SSO, may detect services with names like intercom_integration_1
or custom_integration_2
that we cannot confidently match to any existing item in your catalog.
This can happen because:
-
The service is not a known type in our catalog.
-
The name or metadata provided by the SSO does not give enough detail.

Where to Find Them
All unclassified discovery results will appear under the Radar tab in a special section called Unknown Findings.
Options for Merging into the Inventory
When you're ready to classify an unknown finding, click Move to Inventory and choose how you’d like to handle it. By opening the merge window and typing a desired name for this data source a few options will appear.
1. Create a New Catalog Item
If the finding represents a brand-new data source, select this option to add it to your inventory as a new item. See below image "MineOS directory - intercom"
2. Merge with an Existing Catalog Item
Choose this option if the finding relates to a data source already in your inventory. In this case, the finding will be merged with the existing item.
The existing item can either be in:
- In your inventory as a data source
-
A finding still sitting in Radar
-
An item previously moved to Unused Assets
In this case, the finding will be merged with the existing item.
📦 What Happens During a Merge:
-
The catalog item will now have multiple findings associated with it.
-
Employees found across these findings will be aggregated and unified.
-
You can view all findings in the Findings box in the catalog item.
Handling Duplicate or Similar Findings
If you choose a catalog item that already exists in Radar or Unused Assets, we’ll automatically merge those entries into your inventory as part of the process—no extra steps required.
Open as a Custom Data Source
If the finding doesn’t match anything known, and you want to provide your own name, use this option to open it as a custom data source.
Click on Create "typed name" to create as custom system in your inventory.
Restoring from Unused Assets
Changed your mind later? You can restore unknown findings from Unused Assets back into your workflow.
➡️ When restoring, the same mapping process will apply: you'll be prompted to link the finding to a data source, whether new, existing, or custom.
Getting Help from a Teammate
If you're not sure what a finding is, don’t hesitate to ask a teammate for help.

Important Notes and Limitations
-
Once merged, findings cannot be unmerged. Please double-check your selection before finalizing the mapping.
-
Merged findings will continue to aggregate new discovery data if more is found later.
